In Ontario Court what is a case conference, w.r.t. child custody? What should I expect?

Although, I have legal representation, I was hoping to hear from some of you that may have had to endure case conferences with a judge & what I should anticipate to follow. I find it hard to believe I must wait 3 months to get to the case conference. What will be the next step? How long will I have to wait for that? During all this time my EX is holding our child hostage from me.... My ex (if she is honest) will contest that while in my custody I have never put my childs health or wellbeing in jeopardy & never kept my child longer than I should have. Still waiting to see if the legal system will actually work.
