Question for experienced fishermen?

The empty hood is landed back on the ground. There's 2-3 ft of the line covered with pounds of sea-weed. The question is how to take it off fast and harmlessly for the line? For me it takes up to 5 minutes to take it off. Is there any kind of tool that helps with it?
